Tuesday, October 14, 2008. Politics Hello whoever you are. I'll tell you right up front that I will be voting for Barack Obama, I'm for gay marriage and gays in the military, and I believe that, whether you are Republican or Democrat, if you can't see the harmful missteps taken by George W. Bush and his comrades, then you've got something loose that needs immediate attention. But the bonehead in the White House is not the reason I'm voting for Obama. Nor is it a Democrat vs. Republican kind of thing. I believe that careful analysis of how humans get along, poor and rich, will reveal that significant government involvement and social programs are necessary for the greater good. If the poor get poorer, crime goes up. If people aren't educated, they are prone to be taken advantage of (mortgage crisis) or they make bonehead decisions (elect someone as unqualified as George W. to the most powerful position in the world). These arguments will rile some of you, and I accept the futility of the immovable forces. Compassion ought to be practiced by everyone but it will not. Sharing ought to come more naturally but it will not. I am grateful for men such as Senators Chuck Hagel of Nebraska and Ron Paul of Texas as much as I am for any Democrat. I fall somewhere left of middle, and I can see as far as right of middle. Too far left or right and you move into territory inhabited by the bitter, belligerent, arrogant and selfish. The immovable forces. I guess we are left to do our best and hope for the best. Sounds like golf. Theatre I want to thank everyone that came to see my recent theatre production, Escurial, at the Dougherty Arts Center here in Austin, Texas. It was something I've wanted to do for a long time. I also had the pleasure of working with good friends, new friends and two of my children, my sons Daniel and Mike. We performed as part of the Gobotrick Theatre Company season. Sadly, my association with Gobotrick has come to an end. I wish the very talented and beautiful Jessica McMichael of Gobotrick and her company co-founder Juliana Nichols the very best. They've got a production coming up in November, so get out and see it please. I will be starting a new company under the name Bare Stages. We are planning a production sometime in the winter 2008-09. More information as that becomes available. I hope you will come out to see us. Music Ah. Here I go dragging my feet again. But I'm almost ready with my second collection of recordings, It's Okay to Cry. I expect to release it in the next month or two. Before the end of the year. I've been writing quite a bit and I have started working on other recordings. Stay tuned for that as well. Some samples will start to show up on my new site any day now. We will be giving a private house concert in the next couple of months as well. Photography Check out some of my new photos. I know, there are a lot of flowers there. I just can't resist a pretty face. I'm available to shoot any project except weddings. Need a holiday photo? Forty bucks gets you a great series of shots to choose from. |
